Ontinyent (Onteniente)
The city of Ontinyent/Onteniente is situated at 382m above sea level in a large valley surrounded by mountains in the Province of Valencia forming part of the region known as La Vall d`Albaida, of which Ontinyent is the capital.
Over the past 50 years the town has changed to a city and the growth is evident as the city now covers a vast amount of area whereas originally the town occupied only one side of the river Clariano.

Ontinyent is around half way between Valencia and Albacete. The road and rail connections are very good with easy access in and out of the city to other parts in Spain. From Valenica take the N-430 direction Albacete and then take the new motorway after Xΰtiva towards Ontinyent, approximately 45 minutes. If you are coming from Alicante take the Madrid/Villena motorway and then take the C-3316 passing Bocairent into Ontinyent, approximately 70 minutes and if you are coming from Gandia to Ontinyent take the C-320, approximately 35 minutes to the center of the city.

In the X and X1 century, Ontinyent/Onteniente used hydraulic energy from the river Clariano for its flourishing textile industry, an industry which has proved very important to the area.
The present day Ontinyent has a population of around 35,000 with modern cafes, an impressive sports center, old cobbled streets to meander through and a vast amount of history.

One of the many fiestas that Ontinyent celebrates is the Moors and Christians (Moros y Christianos) held at the end of August every year. Around 6000 people each year are involved in the fiesta and the streets are filled with an array of bright, beautiful, colored outfits, processions and music, symbolizing the advance of the Moorish troops into Ontinyent.

2km from the centre of Ontinyent/Onteniente and you will find yourself in the natural park of Pou Clar. Fresh mountain water gathers in the pools at the summit, each having their own name and one can see a number of rectangular "windows" carved into the rock, popularly known as Finestres dels Moros believed to date back to the Andalusina period.
18km from Ontinyent in the Solana mountain range is Gamellons which  boasts a natural spring and camping area.

A beautiful area of Inland Valencia with much to offer the tourist or those that live there. Fresh water swimming, natural parks, rock climbing, shopping and the old town and taking a walk through history.
